Today the “Goog” a.k.a “The Google” released a swanky new feature. You are now able to “search by image”. Please view thy video below:
Funky ha? I was a big fan of tineye.com but they just didn’t have it quite right.
So how does this “search by image” feature help a charming affiliate like you? Well refer to exhibit numero uno:

Here we have a wild Groupon ad, looks to be a mature male. If you drag the image into the search field you can view some of the sites it is placed on:

Also! You can find similar images using the keyword that a certain ad comes up for. When I plugged in that Groupon ad Google spat out the search term it ranks highest. It turned out to be “Pretty Patties” which happens to be some food from the SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon. Fancy that!
Now for the piece dé resistance…
Have you ever needed some ad inspiration for a niche you are unfamiliar with? YES I have!
Step 1: Go to Google images, click on the “exactly” tab.
Step 2: Insert dimensions of a typical IAB ad (e.g 300×250).
Step 3: Give yourself a pat on the back.

Yay, and that is how you make your own DIY ad spy!
P.S. If you want something more sophisticated check out whatrunswhere.com they have a slick tool.

WOW! At first i was like no way, then I tried it myself and still couldnt believe it! Thats awesome!!
Good way to steal banners
. I always name the banner images something irrelevant … also no or irrelevant alt tag might help in letting people not steal your banners
Personally I just see what is being advertised and I take note of the things in common between banners e.g the call to action or titles, then make it my own.
Actually that won't matter at all for this new Google tool. It actually analyzes the images to do that matching, so you can name the pics anything you want and they will still show up in these results…
unbelievable!
thx for this awesome tip
Thanks for the pointer Mr.Green. Just tried it out myself and there seems to be lots of possibilities with it.
OMG! Lorenzo you are genius!
I'm just the messenger
Google is the genius.
Searching for images by standard IAB sizes is something I really should have thought of first… Damit! Great post. I'm sure alot of affiliates are going to be inspired to do some competetive research.
This really simplifies things. Before I would search for IAB ads with terms such as “groupon 300×250″.
This is really creative. Good work bro!
Great article!
Epic find Lorenzo! Thanks for the heads up *opens swipe file*
Wow, this is going to to make things a lot easier for lots of affiliates out there.
Wonder how long before the Reddit community finds this and stops using Tineye for stalking jailbait?
You sir are a gentleman and scholar…. That first tip is gonna help a lot.

Yep they just took it down last few days…my referral traffic must of overloaded The Googles servers.
